The Roots: What would you tell about Kirkkonummi
and Finland?
The participating classes 4B and 4K (ages 10-11)
at Gesterby school were divided into eight working
groups.
First the pupils made the planning of the tasks
and reflection with the help of Extreme Collaboration.
Then all the groups searched for the relevant
information about Kirkkonummi and Finland on the Internet and wrote
it directly on Google Drive.
Every group did reflection several times and in
several phases: while doing group work, group members individually
and the tasks were reflected along the process as well.
The information found on the Internet was
further reviewed and modified for the project purposes.

Class 4B made posters on the topics: ‘Finland in the Past and Finland Today’, ‘Nature- Four Seasons, Everyman’s Rights’ and ‘Traditions and Festivities’. Pupils also searched suitable pictures for each posters
Class 4K groups’ tasks were: Kirkkonummi in the Past and Kirkkonummi Today, School Food Before and Now, Finnish traditions: Cross-Country Skiing,
The content for each poster was written in Finnish and in English. English was used for our present Comenius- project purposes.
The pupils added informationin the posters with Aurasma-augmented reality, QR-codes and Morfo applications.
During the process the pupils learned to know how the applications worked. They learned to use the applications easily and were able to do peer tutoring. In addition they were able to adapt the knowledge and develop it further in the project.
The final products - the A3 posters were presented to all classes in our school. Parents of the pupils involved were invited to school to see what their children had worked with at the project.. The pupils were again divided in groups and they took the visiting parents around in the school facilities..
Kirkkonummi local newspaper: ‘Kirkkonummen Sanomat’ sent a reporter to our school to take pictures and write an article which will be published in the paper this spring.
Our Comenius-visitors from Northern Ireland, Czech Republic and Italy were shown the iTEC -project in our school in March.
