Tavoitteet
The purpose of the project is to increase students' awareness of the various conflicts happening around the world, how conflicts and war are reported in the media, what types of charity organizations exist and what their roles are in areas of conflict. They will investigate the origins of peace symbols, consider how they are used and their impact. In addition, they will examine the concepts of "soldier" and consider the ways in which the word soldier is used, for ex. freedom fighter, revolutionary, terrorist, etc. The overall goal of the project is to develop students' skills in analyzing written text and images and in thinking critically about what they read and see.

Students will choose a topic of interest from the list below and then make a digital story using Popplet, ReFelx and Windows Movie Maker. War and peace in the media Symbols of peace What do we lose/win when we fight a war? Military service, why is it necessary? Or is it? Where do refugees come from? International organizations for promoting peace War, then and now Freedom fighters, revolutionaries or terrorists? Different concepts of the word soldier. When is it acceptable to use peace enforcement? Famous promoters of peace

Työskentelyn kuvaus
In pairs, students will first consider what they already know about their chosen topic using Popplet. Then they will search for additional information about the topic and add it to their Popplet diagram. Once they have enough information (pictures, possibly videos and music), the students will report about their digi-story in ReFlex and begin writing their script. Using Windows Movie Maker, the students will put their material together to form a short digi-story (max. 5 min.). Again, the students will report about their progress with ReFlex. The three best stories will be published on the school's website.

Arviointi
Students will be evaluated throughout the entire process of the project: cooperation with others, appropriate use of information and pictures, accuracy of information, quality of their final work = the effort they put into making their story.
