Case Forest inquiry, The historical development of human life and human biology

At Viikki Teacher Training School, University of Helsinki, fifth grade pupils carried out an inquiry on the historical development of human life and human biology using the participatory learning method called Case Forest. During the period of 14 lessons, research groups of 1–5 pupils planned and carried out an inquiry on something they were interested in and taught others what they had learned. The research groups searched information on the Internet and books, and interviewed experts. All the research processes and results were documented in one Power Point file. In the end of the period, everything that had been learned was evaluated and improvements to the project were considered with the next research project in mind.
